Overview
The Chat module in AdlDesk enables real-time communication between all team members without leaving the platform. As a manager, you can initiate conversations, create group chats, and link discussions directly to cases — keeping all project-related communication organized and searchable in one place.
Accessing Chat
Click the Chat icon in the left sidebar (speech bubble icon). The Chat page opens with a conversation list on the left and the active conversation on the right.
Direct Messages
To send a direct message to a team member:
- Click the + New Chat button at the top of the conversation list.
- Search for the team member by name.
- Select their name to open a new direct message thread.
- Type your message in the input field at the bottom and press Enter or click Send.
Group Conversations
For discussions involving multiple team members:
- Click + New Chat, then switch to the Group tab.
- Enter a group name (e.g., "Case #1087 Team" or "Weekly Standup").
- Search and add multiple team members.
- Click Create Group to start the conversation.
Group conversations appear with a group icon in your conversation list. You can add or remove members later by clicking the group name at the top of the chat window.
Attaching Files
Click the paperclip icon in the message input area to attach files. Supported formats include PDF, Word, Excel, and images. Attached files are stored in the platform and can be accessed later from the conversation history.
Case-Related Discussions
To link a conversation to a specific case:
- Inside any chat thread, click the Link to Case button (chain icon above the input field).
- Search for and select the case.
- The case reference tag appears in the conversation, and the discussion thread becomes accessible from the case's detail page under the Communications tab.
Searching Message History
Use the Search bar at the top of the conversation list to search across all messages. You can filter results by date range or by specific conversation. This is useful for finding past decisions, shared files, or instructions given to team members.
Online Status Indicators
Each team member's avatar shows a status indicator: a green dot for Online, yellow for Away (idle for more than 10 minutes), and grey for Offline. Status updates automatically based on platform activity.
