Client Portal

What clients see when they log into the client portal — cases, documents, invoices, hearings, and chat.

What Is the Client Portal?

The Client Portal is a read-only view of AdlDesk that your clients can access by logging in with the credentials you create for them. Clients see only their own cases — they cannot access other clients' data or any internal firm information such as financial reports or team settings.

What Clients See: Dashboard

Upon logging in, a client lands on their personal dashboard showing:

  • Active Cases — a list of all their open or in-progress cases with current status badge.
  • Upcoming Hearings — the next three scheduled hearing dates across all their cases.
  • Outstanding Balance — the total amount still owed across all unpaid or partially-paid invoices.

Cases (Read-Only)

Clients can browse their case list and open individual case pages. On each case page they see:

  • Case title, type, and current status.
  • A simplified timeline of key milestones and status changes.
  • Upcoming and past hearing dates (court name, date, time) — they cannot add or edit hearings.
  • The name of the assigned lawyer.

Clients cannot edit any case fields, change status, or add hearings — all case information is read-only for them.

Documents (Shared Files Only)

Clients can only see documents that you have explicitly marked as "Share with Client". Documents that are not shared remain completely invisible to them regardless of which case they are linked to.

To share a document with a client from within a case:

  1. Open the case and navigate to the Documents tab.
  2. Find the document you want to share.
  3. Toggle the Share with Client switch on the document row.

The document immediately becomes visible in the client's portal under the relevant case.

Financial: Invoices and Payment History

Clients can view their invoices — amount, due date, and status (Unpaid / Partially Paid / Paid). They can download individual invoice PDFs. They also see a payment history table listing all payments recorded against their invoices with dates and amounts. Clients cannot create invoices or mark payments themselves.

Chat: Messaging Their Lawyer

The Chat section of the portal lets clients send messages directly to their assigned lawyer. Messages sent from the portal appear in the AdlDesk Chat module for the lawyer. Lawyers can reply from within AdlDesk and the client sees the reply in their portal in real time.

Tip: Proactively share key documents (powers of attorney, court notifications, judgment copies) with clients via the portal. This reduces inbound phone calls asking for status updates and gives clients confidence that their case is being managed professionally.
Important: The client portal login is separate from the main AdlDesk application. Clients do not have access to the full interface — only the portal subset described above.
